Axes of railway engines![]() These axes are preferably deep rolled with hydrostatic "ballpoint" tools. This tool is identical with the one shown in the example turbine wheels. The mechanical tool EG45 is a solution with lower investment for the same application. Stub axles for cars and trucks ![]() The critical fillet is deep rolled and the outside diameter mating with the rotating seal is roller burnished. |
|
In a more complete application, it is also possible to roller burnish the bearing seats as well. If the component is rotating in the lathe
with life tool drive, driven tools HG6-5 may be used. They are equipped with an integrated pump and do not need any high pressure hoses. Some stub axles have a large eccentric mass and are too balky to ro-tate on the lathe. Theses axles are machined in stationary clamping with rotating tools. Rotary ball point tools HG6-11 with a plurality of burnishing elements are used in theses cases. Truck rear axle housings ![]() They have two critical fillets. Both are deep rolled on the lathe with two HG6 "ballpoint" tools, set to different angles. The machine is equipped with two turrets. Both turrets are provided with one tool set, so that the deep rolling process at both sides can be completed at the same time. This process is very fast and the fatigue strength is significantly increased. |
